"Best In World" Hotel Management Software: A Long Time Coming
BAHARA, Cagayan de Oro Hotel And Restaurant Association, COHARA,
Q: What do you do better than anyone else?
Paris: That's easy. We develop hotel management software which enables a hotelier to fully integrate every department of his or her resort without making use of 3rd party, tough-to-integrate, non-compatible software. As far I know, no other software development firm anywhere has managed to do this. Ever.
Q: Why have no other software firms succeeded in creating an all-in-one solution for all resort departments?
Paris: Not for lack of trying. It may take a couple of solid, dedicated years, even with a hotel industry-veteran software architect plus a dedicated and appropriately skilled programming team, just to build one component software—say, for basic hotelier needs like Reservations, Front desk, and Housekeeping. Then if you decide you want to build Inventory, it may take just as much time and effort as it took for the Reservation-based modules. Imagine if want Accounting. And if you throw in F&B Point Of Sale, Banquet Sales, Payroll, Timekeeping, and so on? Forget it. You're looking at what for most software firms would be a near impossible moon-shot. Our sustainable competitive advantage is that we’ve already done all of this.
Q: So you don’t see yourself as having any competitors for all-department software solutions?
Paris: At first blush there is plenty of competition. In some cases our strongest competitors are companies and software we have great admiration and respect for. For instance Micros Opera PMS, the market leader. My team also admires FiestaHMS from the Middle East and eZee from India. Go emerging markets! Gatessoft distances itself however when it comes to in-house solutions for all departments. Precious few hotel software developers even come close to us in this regard. Those that do likely acquired component modules from other companies and tried to engineer compatibility into them.
Q: How did you avoid the need to acquire component modules from 3rd parties?
Paris: George and our programming teams have been at this game for 16 years. In the software industry, that's highly unusual for an un-acquired firm, perhaps unheard of. But if you do the math on the man-hours, you'll quickly see there is no magic--we've literally put in the decade and a half required to develop in-house all the code needed to run every department in a resort operation. That’s not something that can be easily mimicked or duplicated. There’s the Gatessoft magic sauce: 16 years of blood, sweat, and tears.
